ACUF is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people; especially, those with asthma and allergic diseases though research, education, networking and advocacy.

ACUF envision a society with better breathing, better living, and happier, united and prosperous people.

HISTORY


Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF) was established in memory of Mrs. Amaka Onyemaechi Chiwuike-Uba as a non-profit, non-governmental and charitable organisation. Mrs. Amaka Chiwuike-Uba died of asthma exacerbation on July 4, 2016.

PURPOSE


ACUF is established primarily to:

  • To educate, advocate and provide services for families suffering from asthma to better manage asthma through home assessments, education and training, workshops and community events.
  • To engage in advocacy and education in public policy and legislative settings with emphasis on asthma, anaphylaxis, and other respiratory and health conditions.
  • To mitigate economic and social hardships among Nigerian and African Children, adolescents, youth and the aged.
  • To stimulate and promote collaboration in research, education and innovation on asthma, anaphylaxis, other respiratory and health conditions.

ACUF’s broad objectives are carried out through strategic approaches under Research, Education and Training, Advocacy and Policy Dialogues and Demonstration Projects/Programmes.

Centres of Excellence

ACUF established three Centres to facilitate the implementation of various programmes of the Foundation. The Centres are:

1.    Centre for Asthma, Allergy and Respiratory Conditions (CAARC)
2.    Centre for Innovation, Youth, Rural and Sustainable Development (CIYRSD)
3.    Centre for Leadership and Global Education (CeLGE)

Centre for Asthma, Allergy and Respiratory Conditions (CAARC)

CAARC is focused primary to educate, advocate and provide services for families suffering from asthma to better manage asthma through home assessments, education and training, workshops and community events by developing, collating and interpreting data relevant to the prevention and management of chronic airways diseases as well as health policy. CAARC also stimulate and promote collaboration in research, education and innovation on asthma, anaphylaxis, and other respiratory and health conditions.

Centre for Innovation, Youth, Rural and Sustainable Development (CIYRSD)

CIYRSD is intended to enable innovations in science and technology by creating a purpose driven and effective channel to help industries and business establishments to compete and prosper in the face of global competition, turbulent market conditions and fast moving technologies by providing high-quality, independent analysis and innovative and practical recommendations. CIYRSD maintain and develop the relationship business-training in the latest development areas of knowledge for achieving the strategic objective of inclusive growth and sustainable development. We work on processes of innovation and change through facilitating innovation, brokering knowledge and supporting capacity development

Centre for Leadership and Global Education (CeLGE)

The Centre for Leadership and Global Education (CeLGE) is focused on improving the education and competencies of private and public leaders; including artisans, professionals, executives and managers at global levels. It equips leaders to rise above barriers and provides global experiences to leaders and students; developing leaders of character through research and active engagements.

CeLGE collaborates with other institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, business, churches and others to design customized international leadership and education programs and trainings.

ABOUT MRS. AMAKA CHIWUIKE-UBA

Amaka Onyemaechi Chiwuike-Uba was born in Otolo Nnewi, Anambara State, to late Ebele Edna and Charles C. Okoye (Mgbo) of Egbu, Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi.

The second child of her parents, Amaka obtained her primary education at Modupe Primary School, Folagoro, Lagos, Nigeria. She then attended the Igbobi Girls High School, Shomolu, Lagos, Nigeria, where she obtained her Senior School Certificate. She continued her higher education at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus where she received a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons.) degree in Marketing in 2001. She went on to complete her post-graduate studies, obtaining an MBA degree in Marketing from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 2008. Academically, Amaka was so bright and determined; hence, her decision to enroll for a PhD programme. Unfortunately, her sudden transition abruptly terminated that process and dream.
